Live theater provides an energetic, joyous form of expression for you as an audience. It is also a costly undertaking. While our actors are likely to be your friends and neighbors who are performing for pure expressive joy, there are costs associated with the purchase of rights to perform, the musicians, lumber for scenery, set pieces, props and technical staff. The rights alone for a show like “Oliver" are more than $2700 for the six show run. Other expenditures can bring the cost of a musical up to $10,000. Joy is often expensive.
Stage Door Productions will put seven plays and musicals on stage during our Tenth season, in addition to two children’s shows. If past trends hold, tickets will cover 45% of the costs incurred by our company, with another 40% coming from summer camps and other fund-raising efforts. The remainder comes from contributions. The most important source of these contributions is from you, our patrons.
As the treasurer of an Arts organization, I often hold my breath as we count the proceeds from each performance, wondering when we will break even, if at all. As a patron of Stage Door Productions, you can help all of us to breathe easier with your contributions in support of our endeavors. Contributions at the Angel, Benefactor or Patron level will help us to continue providing all actors, young and old, with an opportunity to participate in live theater, without tuition or other costs.
Your financial contributions help to provide the high quality of lively theater that the community has come to expect during our ten seasons. Every dollar that you are able to contribute increases the joy. Please join us as we all Celebrate Ten Years of Theater in the Community.
Best Regards,
